Paint your “home” out!

A fresh coat of paint is the way to go If you want an inexpensive way to freshen up the look of the interior of your home.  This article isn’t all about painting a room as there are ways to add a pop of color and freshen up the look of your home!

Here are 3 ideas to add color to your home featuring design trends for 2020.

1. Three-Tone Kitchens.  You’ve probably heard of two-tone kitchens with the upper cabinets are one color and the lower cabinets are another or the island is a different color from the perimeter cabinets.  With a three-tone kitchen, additional color is added to create an asymmetrical look. An easy way to add a third color is by painting your bar stools or the table kitchen!  Look for small ways to add “spice” with color in your kitchen.

2. Paint your ceiling BLACK!  For many years we’ve been seeing all-white kitchens and gray throughout the home. Black is making a comeback and one way to incorporate it into your home is by painting your ceiling.

Here are just a couple of reasons why to paint your ceiling black:

  • It adds flair to the room.  By painting the ceiling black next to crown molding you can really add a sense of style to the room.

  • To make your ceiling look lower.  With really high ceilings you can make a room look cozier and more inviting with a black ceiling.

  • To hide the ductwork in the basement ceiling.  You don’t have to have a drop ceiling if you just paint everything black and leave it open.

3. Paint an interior door – Painting an interior door can add warmth and character to a room.  The easiest way to do this is to paint the backside of your front door the same color as the exterior.  You’ll be surprised at the warmth it adds to your foyer.  Other options are your bedroom or dining room door (if you have one!).

Lastly, to give you some paint color inspirations I’ve included the various paint manufacturers’ colors of the year.  You’ll notice in the pictures above many of the colors have been used.

If you need more help with picking paint colors, both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore offer paint consultation services.  It’s not expensive and it saves you the hassle of buying samples of paint to figure out what you like best.

I’d love to see pictures and hear from any of you who incorporate one of these ideas in your home.
